Christmas Trends 2021

It may still be October, but like it or not, the countdown to Christmas has already begun.

At Cards Galore we know that planning ahead makes life easier which is why it makes sense to get cracking now.  There’s no time like the present, if you’ll excuse the pun. So, to help you kick start the process, we’ve checked out the festive trends for 2021 that even the most reluctant humbugs will be sure to embrace.

Gonks

And first on the list of seasonal must-haves are the fabulous Gonks! Our fascination with all things Scandi shows no sign of abating if the demand for these bearded fellows is anything to go by. Inspired by gnomes and hobgoblins in Norse mythology-sometimes mischievous, sometimes helpful- they were said to make their homes in the houses and barns of farms. They may look like Santa Claus although weren’t originally regarded as Christmas icons-that’s something which developed over time.

Whether made of felt, wood or metal, these little beings are sure to create a festive atmosphere while appealing to the kid in all of us!

Thank your neighbour!

Even if we’ve always been on good terms with our neighbours, chances are life in lockdown curtailed the opportunity for the usual friendly chats, meaning we’re now keen to reconnect. Or perhaps a particular neighbour has habitually gone the extra mile to be helpful-maybe putting our bins out each week, so we don’t have to or feeding the fish if we’ve been lucky enough to head off on holiday.

Good neighbours are worth their weight in gold and this year we are already seeing an increase in the sales of specific “Thank You Neighbour” cards. It seems that a basic card from the box is no longer enough for all those neighbourhood heroes! Our extensive Christmas range wishing that very special neighbour a wonderful time will have them floating on cloud nine! (And hopefully, they’ll keep putting our bins out.)

Red and Green Colour scheme

A traditional red and green colour scheme may have gone out of vogue in recent years to make way for more contemporary choices but the good news is that this quintessential yuletide combination is taking centre stage once again! Think red berries against the green branches of your tree or the contrast of crimson with emerald in the design of plaid accessories. Trends may come and go but we’re glad to see this nostalgic colour pairing make a re-appearance for Christmas 2021. It’s certainly a theme featured in many of our greeting’s cards.

Sending Christmas cards!

There’s nothing quite like receiving a Christmas card – and for many of us, sending them is also half the fun. How many of us enjoy the ritual of sitting down with an old address book (and possibly a tipple) to send a festive greeting to people you may have not seen much of over the year?

Over the past 5 years, some people have started to use social media to send a mass festive greeting – either a post on a platform or a mass animated message. Others have made a charity donation in lieu of sending a card.

At Cards Galore Online, we’ve noticed a real increase on the number of cards being bought this year – already. Conversations with our customers are telling us that people want to reconnect, reach out and keep in touch with the special people they have missed so much during the pandemic.

We’re delighted to say that sending Christmas cards is definitely in fashion this year!

Wreaths

Festive wreaths seemed to be everywhere last year and they’re set to prove even more popular in 2021 if that’s possible! There’s something so welcoming about seeing them displayed on front doors in every neighbourhood but they convey seasonal cheer just as effectively when hung inside the house too.

We love wreaths made from real foliage such as eucalyptus, ivy, holly and pine. That said, there are some very convincing faux options too. With or without berries, featuring twinkly fairy lights or not-from the simple to the elaborate, they’re guaranteed to make a truly eye-catching festive statement.

Now that we’ve given you an overview of the key trends for Christmas 2021, we defy you to resist the allure of the approaching season. After all, even Scrooge was won over by the Christmas spirit in the end!
